HOW WE APPROACH FEEDING THERAPY

Helping children build the skills, confidence, and comfort needed for eating.
At Green Light, feeding therapy is never about forcing children to eat foods they are not ready for.
Instead, we focus on understanding WHY eating feels difficult and helping children build the underlying skills needed for successful feeding.
FIRST: ADDRESS THE SKILL DEFICIT
Many feeding challenges are connected to underlying difficulties with:
• Chewing
• Tongue movement
• Oral motor coordination
• Swallowing
• Sensory processing
• Body awareness
• Regulation around food
Rather than jumping straight to “just try the food,” we first build the skills that make eating possible.

FOODS MATCH SKILL LEVELS
As skills grow, a child’s ability to eat new foods grows too. That means the foods we introduce are carefully chosen to align with your child’s current abilities while gently helping them progress toward more complex textures and eating experiences over time. The food hierarchy changes WITH your child’s growth.

RESPONSIVE FEEDING IS THE FOUNDATION
Everything we do is grounded in responsive feeding principles.
✔ We follow your child’s cues
✔ We prioritize safety and trust
✔ We reduce pressure
✔ We avoid forcing food
Children learn best when they feel safe, regulated, and supported. That does not mean there are no expectations. It means the support and cues we provide evolve as your child’s skills improve.

REALISTIC STRATEGIES FOR HOME
Our goal is not just progress inside the therapy room. We provide realistic, manageable strategies families can use during everyday meals without turning eating into stressful battles.
Feeding therapy should build:
✨ Skills
✨ Confidence
✨ Trust
✨ Connection
All at the same time.
We’re honored to walk alongside you and your child on this journey.
Thank you for trusting Green Light.
